Error occurred while setup was updating partition information
Hello, I have been trying to install Win XP from scratch (clean install) . At the screen where you select the partition delete any that are already created.I had Win98 on a 6GB partition but decided to try out XP. Then select the unpartitioned space and XP will create the partition. Tim Instead of using fdisk to create your partition use the Windows XP installation option.Sadly - W2K's setup reports: "an error occurred while setup was updating partition information on disk0 at id0 on bus 0 on atapi. - just for the heck of it I tried re-installing Ubuntu (just to check the disk wasn't somehow "hard" damaged)- works no problem.Seems my hard disk is now destined for Linux only - and I thought Microsoft's products were the mother of all viruses! Then select the unpartitioned space and XP will create the partition. My computer crashed and while I attempted to reinstall windows XP professional I unplugged the power cord. Is there anyway to correct this error and try to reinstall? It kepts started and asked me to open at SAFE MODE and I have tried all the possibilities options but it didn't works!
Mike was on the right path with DBAN, I would recommend that you use the Ubuntu livecd and use the partition software on it called GParted or Parted.I made a boot disk, rebooted, ran fdisk off bootdisk, deleted ALL partitions, created new 6GB partition as primary, made it active, got out of fdisk, rebooted with bootdisk still inside, ran format c:, no label, took bootdisk out, put in Win XP CD, rebooted, pressed any key to boot off of CD, Windows XP setup screen came up, waited till all things were loaded off CD, got to where it asks to press ENTER to start installing XP, pressed F8 to agree to EULA, NOW: select partition where XP is to be installed: I select C: by pressing Enter - next screen I see is an error screen: An error occurred while Setup was updating partition information on: 39261MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR] Setup cannot continue. At the screen where you select the partition delete any that are already created. Could it have something to do with a previous Linux installation on the drive? Any solutions are more than welcome Thanks a lot New XPnow then mate sorry i can't help but maybe point yer in the dirction for certain help guarentted to get your answer i get lots of help from this site i will tell you goto is good to have a few forums to post your troubles i have just joined this also and it looks sound so every bit helps take it easy and good luck Yeh, that does sound odd - try running fdisk again, but this time do an "fdisk /mbr" too - this will format the master boot record of your drive - there could be some partition info in there that's in some way making XP setup see your drive configuration incorrectly? Instead of using fdisk to create your partition use the Windows XP installation option.Once booted into the recovery partition and selecting “Reinstall OS X”, the “Eligibility Verification” window shows up. An unspecified error shows up which states “An Error occurred while preparing the installation.Try running this application again.” Upon doing so, the same exact error pops up.
